# productTypeDefinitions_getDefinitionsProductType (https://sellersheetai.com/docs/mcp-api/tools/productTypeDefinitions_getDefinitionsProductType)

> Retrieve an Amazon product type's definition — its attribute groups, requirements and a link to its JSON Schema.

Access: **READ** · toolset amazon_sp · family sp.definitionsProductTypes_2020-09-01

Amazon SP-API · getDefinitionsProductType · GET /definitions/2020-09-01/productTypes/{productType} Use this to understand required and optional attributes before calling listings_putListingsItem. To compose listing rows, listings_prepare_publish_queue_template returns the same schema as sheet columns, required keys and enums.

## Arguments

| Name | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `store` | string | yes | the store ref `<store>-<CC>` (name-country, e.g. 'myStore-US') — one of get_user_context's store_refs, verbatim. |
| `product_type` | string | yes | Amazon product type string (e.g. 'LUGGAGE'). Get from productTypeDefinitions_searchDefinitionsProductTypes. |
| `include_schema` | boolean | | true downloads the full JSON Schema into data.definition.schema.content (large); leave it false unless you need the schema itself. |
| `requirements` | string | | Which requirements set to retrieve. Default: LISTING (all attributes). Allowed: LISTING \| LISTING_PRODUCT_ONLY \| LISTING_OFFER_ONLY. Allowed: LISTING \| LISTING_PRODUCT_ONLY \| LISTING_OFFER_ONLY. |
| `requirements_enforced` | string | | ENFORCED (strict validation, the default) or NOT_ENFORCED (partial updates). Allowed: ENFORCED \| NOT_ENFORCED. |
| `product_type_version` | string | | Version to retrieve. Default: LATEST. Use RELEASE_CANDIDATE for preview versions. |
| `locale` | string | | Locale for display labels in the response. Defaults to the default language of the first marketplace in the request. Allowed: DEFAULT \| ar \| ar_AE \| de \| de_DE \| en \| en_AE \| en_AU \| en_CA \| en_GB \| en_IN \| en_SG \| en_US \| es \| es_ES \| es_MX \| es_US \| fr \| fr_CA \| fr_FR \| it \| it_IT \| ja \| ja_JP \| nl \| nl_NL \| pl \| pl_PL \| pt \| pt_BR \| pt_PT \| sv \| sv_SE \| tr \| tr_TR \| zh \| zh_CN \| zh_TW. Allowed: DEFAULT \| ar \| ar_AE \| de \| de_DE \| en \| en_AE \| en_AU \| en_CA \| en_GB \| en_IN \| en_SG \| en_US \| es \| es_ES \| es_MX \| es_US \| fr \| fr_CA \| fr_FR \| it \| it_IT \| ja \| ja_JP \| nl \| nl_NL \| pl \| pl_PL \| pt \| pt_BR \| pt_PT \| sv \| sv_SE \| tr \| tr_TR \| zh \| zh_CN \| zh_TW. |
| `parentage_level` | string | | Parentage level of the listing the schema is for. Amazon then resolves all conditional logic for that level and returns a smaller schema with fewer conditions — pass it when building a variation family. Allowed: NONE \| CHILD \| PARENT. Allowed: NONE \| CHILD \| PARENT. |

## Result

- `data.productType` — the product type name.
- `data.definition.propertyGroups` — the attribute groups.
- `data.definition.schema.link.resource` — the JSON Schema's download link.
- `data.definition.schema.content` — (include_schema=true) the JSON Schema itself.
- `data.definition.requirements / data.definition.productTypeVersion` — what was served.

## Workflow

- 1. productTypeDefinitions_searchDefinitionsProductTypes for the productType. 2. Call with requirements LISTING (and parentage_level for a variation family). 3. Read data.definition.propertyGroups; pass include_schema=true only when you need the JSON Schema itself.
